Welcome, brothers and sisters, to our Lenten series, “Junk in the Yard.” In our recent episodes, we’ve been exploring the sin of pride. Today, we delve into another aspect of this vice: the aversion to making mistakes. Have you ever found yourself deeply uncomfortable or even denying a mistake you’ve made, trying to hide it, blame others, or beat yourself up over it? This behavior stems from a prideful desire to appear perfect and flawless.
We often see this attitude in others as well, becoming upset, judgmental, or even scandalized by their mistakes. But as we know, expecting perfection from ourselves and others only leads to misery and imperfection. Instead, we are called to pray, calm down, and accept our imperfections with grace.
Let us remember to give thanks to God for our accomplishments and talents, acknowledging that they come from Him. When we make mistakes, let’s not dwell in self-condemnation but rather say, “Till now, I haven’t done anything good. Let me start doing good today.”
Lastly, let us be humble enough to apologize when we make mistakes, recognizing our humanity and the grace of forgiveness. May we learn to accept our faults and those of others with humility and grace. God bless you as we continue our Lenten series on “Junk in the Yard.”
