Jesus revealed himself to his disciples and started everything from scratch, granting them a new beginning not because they wanted it or knew how to do it but because Jesus Christ had risen and granted it. He sent them out to Galilee, where everything began, for a new beginning. Christ needs to call them again, not just once but on different occasions, not because he needs it but because they require it.
However, instead of waiting or gathering to pray, they decided to go fishing. They were hungry and went to their old way of living, their own profession, without consulting among themselves. Peter decided and others followed, with no discernment process. Once again, the story repeats itself: empty nets. It shows that without Jesus, there is no presence of the Divine, and life becomes meaningless.
Christ’s salvation is not only from Satan and sin but also from meaninglessness, from a life without a deeper purpose, which only God can give. There is more in life than just existing, and when the Lord is not there, life becomes flat, just reduced to what we are supposed to do.
Jesus Christ confronted them when they were empty, not when they were most successful, as if to say, “You are empty, your life is empty, and you need me.” Jesus asked them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?” not to trick them, but to make them reflect. They could have said they caught a few fish, but instead, they realized they were empty, and their nets were empty. In the morning, Jesus appeared on the coast, standing on the shore, and asked them to bring some fish, and he gave them breakfast.
